Omeo Medical Centre is a friendly welcoming clinic, catering to all ages and all backgrounds. The clinic is fully accredited against the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Standards by the Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL).

Omeo Medical Centre caters for a wide range of basic medical procedures with fully functional treatment room and practice nurse. We have experienced locum doctors that work on a rotation, all of whom have General Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency (AHPRA).

Our clinic is a teaching and supervising practice, where we encourage medical students and nursing students to train at our clinic. We take Medical students from Melbourne University in 3rd year of training on rural clinical placements, we encourage our patients to allow students to participate in their consultations, however you are under no obligation to have a student present, please inform reception staff that you do not wish to have a student present.

Omeo Medical Centre is fully computerized. Services offered include family medical care, Insurance reports, pre-employment medicals, TAC reports, health assessments, chronic disease management plans, mental health plans, pathology collection, immunisations and wound dressings. Diabetic Nurse visits once a month.

The co-location of the medical centre enables strongly integrated care with the full range of services offered by Omeo District Health and the urgent care centre.

Outreach services to Ensay & Swifts Creek Bush Nursing Centres

Appointments:

An appointment is required for all routine medical consultations; they are at 15 minute intervals.
Appointments can be made by calling our Medical Reception team on 5159 0140 or online using HotDoc (online portal).

Please advise reception staff if an extended consultation is required for:

  • Minor Surgical Procedures
  • Insurance, Medical or Centrelink examinations
  • Complex or several medical problems
  • More than one person is to be seen
  • Your personal details need to be updated

We aim to make waiting times as short as possible, however, emergencies will always be given priority. Our reception staff will keep you informed should any unforeseen delays affect you. Please notify the reception desk if you have not been seen within 30 minutes of your appointment time.

Home Visits:

Home visits within the Omeo, Benambra, Swifts Creek and Ensay townships may be available should your condition or a serious illness prevent you from attending the clinic. Please call the Medical Centre’s reception to arrange a Home Visit with the Doctor.

Pathology & Test Results:

 You will be contacted by the Practice if follow up is required, unless your doctor advises otherwise. Generally, we suggest you wait 48 hours after the test prior to contacting for results. Please phone our receptionists on 5159 0140, they will take your details and arrange for the doctor to return your call or make an appointment if the Doctors wished to see you in consultation, follow up of test results appointments are bulk billed.

Contacting Doctors by Telephone:

To minimise interruptions during consultations the doctors prefer not to accept phone calls for non-urgent matters. They ask that you give the details to the receptionist along with your contact phone number and the doctor will return your call when they have a free moment.

Urgent matters will be put through to the Practice Nurse or Nurse in Charge at Omeo District Health. 

Recalls & Reminders:

Our practice is committed to preventative care. From time to time you may be issued with a reminder notice offering you preventative health services specific to your needs (e.g. pap smear, immunisation, diabetes). If you do not wish to be enrolled in this system, please inform your doctor or nurse.


Nursing Services:

Chronic Disease Management:

Our Practice Nurse is available for healthcare assessments. Chronic disease management relates to all those patients with a chronic disease (Arthritis, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Asthma, etc). If you have a Chronic Disease, get in touch with reception to make an appointment with our Practice Nurse, to help you to better manage your health.

Wound Management:

This service provides specialised care to people who have wounds that are not healing properly, or who have an increased risk of complications due to underlying health conditions. This may include leg ulcers, lacerations or skin tears, or wounds that have not healed properly after an operation. Our Nurse will assess and treat your wound, work with the Doctor or other health care provider to monitor and evaluate your wound and provide advice about suitable wound care products. 


Blood & Pathology Collection Omeo Medical Centre:

Monday: 8am-9am
Wednesday: 8am-9am
Thursday: 7am-9am

Please note no walk-ins for pathology collection, an appointment is required during the coronavirus pandemic until further notice. Bloods are sent to Dorevitch Pathology-Bairnsdale Hospital at 9.30am on collection days.

Vaccinations:

Vaccinations are administered at appointments. All routine child immunisation vaccines are on hand at the surgery but some vaccines do require a script.

Fees:

Practice billing and nursing charges are displayed at reception and are payable at the time of consultation.

GP Charges:
Holders of health care cards, children under 16, aged and specific DVA pension card holders will be bulk billed for all Medicare rebate-able services. All other patients that do not have any concession will be charged a $20 co-payment on top of the Medicare rebate.

Services that are not covered by Medicare include:

  • Commercial Drivers Licence Renewal i.e. Bus Drivers
  • Workers Compensation Claims (work related injuries)
  • TAC
  • Insurance Medical Reports-please be aware that the patient may be responsible for report expenses.
