What do you know about dementia?
As we
are all living longer, around 1.5 million Australians are involved in the care
of a loved one living with dementia. Dementia is a symptom of a disease process
and not a normal part of ageing.
Dr Charles Luiz from Omeo District Health’s Community Health Centre is hoping to support community members aged between 45-65 to improve health and lifestyle habits that have been identified as risk factors for developing dementia.
Letters
inviting community members to complete a short survey about these risk factors
will be going out soon. The survey only takes about 20 minutes and is anonymous
and confidential. Invitees are also offered the opportunity to make a follow up
appointment with Dr Charles Luiz at the Omeo District Health Community Health
Centre, should they wish to.
An
information evening later in the year will also be scheduled to provide further
details on dementia including how to identify the signs, reduce potential risks
and get support when needed.
The Omeo
District Health Community Health Centre hopes to see community members
completing the survey to help raise awareness and reduce potential risks of
developing dementia.
