Positioned in the heart of Victoria’s High Country, Omeo District Health (ODH) is located in the spectacular Omeo region of East Gippsland within 1.5 hours from Bairnsdale and 40 minutes of the Mount Hotham snow fields.

Omeo is known as a pioneering mountain town, renowned for its gold mining history, high country cattle grazing and historic buildings.

According to the ABS (2021)

  • 30% of Omeo residents work in agriculture, forestry and fishing,

  • 11% work in healthcare

  • 40% of the population is over 60 years of age.

  • More than 5% require assistance in their day-to-day lives

Omeo District Health is a Small Rural Health Service providing urgent care, primary care, residential aged care, allied health and a range of home based services to a population of approximately 1,500 people across the Omeo districts.

It has a long history of overcoming adversity, having weathered recession, population fluxes and complete loss and subsequent rebuild of the facility due to fire in 1939. In 2005, the modern ODH facility officially opened following a full renovation. Since then, Omeo District Health has grown into a modern health facility and plays a crucial role in the Omeo district.

It is the largest employer in the area and central public health service for an area of over 5,900 square kilometres, including communities of Swifts Creek, Cassilis, Bindi, Benambra, Glen Wills and Anglers Rest.
